In Memory of John Andrews
John Andrews was the inspiration behind my project. He was the long time Assistant Principal at Queen Anne’s County High School and was an educator in the county at the time of school integration. Sadly, he was killed on August 23, 2007 when his car was hit by a fugitive fleeing police. This is a page I’ve dedicated to him.
BIOGRAPHY
Mr. Andrews was born on 1936, in Pamplico, South Carolina. He came to Queen Anne’s County in 1961 as an Industrial Arts Teacher at the Kennard School (Queen Anne’s County school for African Americans). When the schools integrated in 1966, he went to Queen Anne’s County High School. In 1971, he was promoted to the school’s Assistant Principal, a position he held for the rest of his life. He was an award winning educator earning awards like the “Nancy Grasmick Award for Minority Achievement”. Sadly on August 23, 2007, he was killed when his car was hit by a fugitive fleeing police. In March 2008 Queen Anne’s County High School renamed the Auditorium the “John F. Andrews Performing Arts Center”.
